As part of 3M Personal Safety Division’s ongoing commitment to delivering high quality safety equipment, we are notifying our end users of the following information related to 3M™ Faceshield, Polycarbonate, Gold Plated, 5XG-IR5. During recent high-speed particle impact testing conducted in accordance with EN 166:2001 for B marked faceshields, some 5XG-IR5 faceshields had small flakes of coating detach from the interior side of the faceshield after impact. The coating detachment occurred at impact speed of 120 m/s and is considered non-conformance to the EN 166:2001 standard. The faceshields passed all other requirements of EN 166:2001. Please reference the directions below for next steps.
There have been no reports of injuries, accidents, or complaints associated with this notice.

Step 1: To determine if your faceshield is affected, locate the model number molded into the faceshield along the side of the faceshield as shown in the image below. If there is a 5XG-IR5 molded into the faceshield (see image on the right below), then continue with step 2, otherwise your product is not affected.
Step 2: Look for the manufacturing date stamped on the side of the faceshield (see image on the left below). Faceshields manufactured between July 2021 and September 2022 are affected, move to step 3, otherwise your product is not affected.

Step 3: Contact your local 3M distributor to coordinate the return of any affected faceshield(s) for credit. At the time of this notice the 5XG-IR5 Faceshield is not readily available. Until they become available, please direct any questions related to alternate faceshield options to your local 3M Representative or 3M Distributor.
Upon receipt of this notice, review your inventory to see if you have any of the faceshields in the affected date range. If you have affected faceshield inventory in your stock, you can return your inventory of the affected faceshields to 3M Personal Safety Division through the 3M Customer Issue Resolution (CIR) Team for credit or replacement at 3M’s expense.
Please immediately forward this notice to any of your customers who have purchased affected faceshield(s) from you and provide any assistance necessary to complete the return process. Contact 3M CIR Team to coordinate credit for customer returned product(s). Please return any affected faceshields returned to you while working through credit and return process.
