3M™ Thermal Runaway Barrier 600/700 Series is a compressible, flame resistant, thermal insulation mat material that can be applied between cells to help reduce thermal transport in high temperatures. The base mat has high temperature stability (up to 1200°C) that allows material to maintain structural integrity and retain barrier performance. The mat features non-classified fibers, has good electrical resistance, and is designed to help slow down heat transfer from one cell to the next. In fully encapsulated form, the material provides good resistance to abrasion and particle shedding and can be customized to include single, or dual-sided, PSA layers for assembly.

Intended Use: These products are intended for use within a high voltage lithium-ion battery pack to help address the heat and potential debris released from the cell that occurs during thermal runaway propagation in automotive, offhighway, industrial and marine battery applications. Since there are many factors that can affect a product’s use, the customer remains responsible for determining whether the 3M product is suitable and appropriate for the customer’s specific application and system, including customer conducting an appropriate risk assessment and evaluating the 3M product in customer’s application and system.
