Highlights
  • Reduction of density
  • Higher strength-to density ratio
  • Higher filler loading feasible and lower VOC for paints and coatings
  • Smaller particle size
  • Chemical stability and inertness
  • Enables automotive parts with Class A paintable finishes
  • Can significantly help improve fuel economy and extend electric vehicle battery range
  • Spherical shape and moderate hardness help reduce production equipment wear
  • Enables production of ultra-lightweight composite parts that may offer a lower cost alternative to aluminum in many applications
  • In thermal insulation, reduces oil and gas pipeline weight by >50% compared to pipe-in-pipe constructions
  • High strength-to-density ratio enables maximum net buoyancy for deepwater applications

3M™ Glass Bubbles S32HS are hollow microspheres made of soda-lime borosilicate glass with a true density of 0.32 g/cm³ and an isostatic crush strength of 6000 psi / 420 bar.

S32HS Glass Bubbles have an excellent strength-to density ratio and can offer greater survival rates than other lightweight additives under demanding processing conditions. These Glass Bubbles can help reduce weight and thermal expansion and can be used in a variety of applications such as automotive, construction, marine, and paints and coatings. The S series Glass Bubbles generally offer smaller particle sizes than the K series. Particularly in automotive applications they can help with attainment of class A surface properties in SMC composites.
