Congratulations to Bryland Fire Protection for installing a bespoke solution that has been named Data Centre Physical Security and Fire Suppression Product of the Year in the prestigious Data Centre Solutions Awards.

Bryland was one of four companies nominated in the category for its innovative fire suppression system created for a data centre in Woking, Surrey, to protect critical assets from fire and damage 24/7.

The bespoke solution is based on 3M™ Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid and the system was installed by Bryland’s in-house team. This consisted of 56 cylinders housing more than 6,000 kg of Novec 1230 fluid – each cylinder with its own intricate pipework system and discharging nozzles.

Graham Turner, managing director of Bryland Fire Protection Ltd, collected the award at a gala dinner held on 12 May.

He said: “We are absolutely delighted to win this award for the Data Centre Novec 1230 install. This certainly was a challenging project, but the professionalism and technical ability of the Bryland team made what seemed like an impossible task quite straightforward. The system design and install flexibility helped a lot during the delivery of the project and this, combined with our dedicated on site project manager, made sure that the project went with the minimum of fuss. A big well done to all the team!”

Added 3M sales manager Simon Mitchell: “Novec 1230 Fire Protection Fluid is an ideal fire suppression solution for the data centre market because it does not leave a residue behind after discharge, so does not damage sensitive equipment. Its environmental profile, safety margin, speed of extinguishing and compact system size are also ideally suited to this market. We are delighted for Bryland, a provider of highly efficient, bespoke and sustainable fire suppression solutions.”

This isn’t the first time that the 3M solution has been recognised in the awards: in 2014 the Kidde Fire Suppression System using Novec 1230 Fire Protection Fluid was named ‘Datacentre Fire/Safety/Lighting Product of the Year’.

This year there were a total of 26 categories and individuals working for neutral businesses were invited to vote for their favourite project.
