“Knowing that 3M is a hugely ethical company means that I have complete confidence when it comes to negotiating contacts for 3M solutions such as biometric enrolment systems, GPS offender tracking systems, and mobile identification solutions,” says Matt, who is general manager for 3M’s Public Sector Markets division.
“These are multi-million pound contracts to supply vital services in areas such as law enforcement and border security, so it’s essential that we deliver on our commitments and don’t let customers down.”
Matt says that 3M being named as one of the world’s most ethical companies by Ethisphere for the third consecutive year is something that makes him proud to work for the company.
He adds: “It’s wonderful to have external recognition for our ethical business practice and is something that enhances our selling proposition. I recently gave a presentation to a Government department and being able to position 3M’s strong credentials in areas such as ethics and sustainability gave us great kudos.”
Matt originally worked for a print supplier and didn’t hesitate when he was asked to join 3M’s secure printing division seven years ago.
He says: “3M was a customer and I was fascinated by the company’s breadth of products and technologies. I was also impressed with the high standard of ethics I had come across in my dealings with 3M people, so it was one of the easiest decisions I have ever made.
“I consider myself very lucky to work for a company that places such a high emphasis on business ethics and provides a great support infrastructure. We have strict rules in place in areas such as providing and accepting gifts and hospitality and this makes life very straightforward.”
Matt adds that having a clear framework for ethical business practice embedded throughout 3M makes him comfortable as it fits with own beliefs and values.
He said: “I think about ethics every day. There really is only one way to go about business and I feel lucky that at 3M there is never any questions that it’s the right way.”
3M has been named as one of the world’s most ethical companies by Ethisphere for the third consecutive year. 3M joins just 131 industry giants, including Tata Steel, Ford Motor Company, Dell and Kellogg Company, to feature in the 2016 World’s Most Ethical Company list.
Ethisphere is a global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical practice in business and recognises companies that align principle with action, work tirelessly to make trust part of their corporate DNA and shape future industry standards.
