More than 300 school children from Berkshire saw a range of 3M technologies in action at a science fair hosted by Evendons Primary School in Wokingham.
3M industrial placement student, Liam Diment, attended the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fair dressed up in a Mr Post-it character costume to the delight of the youngsters.
He came along with Simon Williams, shopper marketer for 3M’s Consumer division, who hosted a stand at the event.
Said Simon, whose five-year-old son Jackson is a pupil at the school: “As a STEM freeschool, Evendons take a hands-on approach to learning and organised the fair to introduce children from a number of local schools to the latest developments in science and technology.
“On our stand we demonstrated a number of technologies, including 3M’s retroreflective material that reflects light back to its source and 3M™ Speedglas™ welding safety products that protect workers. We also re-created the 3M™ Post-it® Note commercial using a desk fan and invited the children to take part in a wrapping contest using 3M™ Scotch® Easy Tear Tape.”
Simon and colleague Tracey Pemberton also explained to the pupils how they interact with 3M products dozens of times a day, ranging from optical films in TVs to adhesives used to bond car parts.
Added Simon: “The pupils were very engaged and asked lots of insightful questions. They loved meeting Mr Post-it and many of them drew pictures of him that they presented to us at the end of the day. Their enthusiasm was infectious.”
