Thin Bonding: Double Coated & Adhesive Transfer Tapes

A wide variety of solutions that enable a thin bond design

ASK A 3M EXPERT

Why choose a Thin Bonding Tape?

  • Acrylic Adhesive
  • Design:
    • Lightweight solution compared to mechanical fasteners
    • Clear bond line
    • Bond surfaces with no damage
    • Uniform thickness of the adhesive layer
    • Combine two different adhesives on both sides of the tape
    • Convertable into die cuts
  • Cost, process and productivity:
    • Quick and clean process
    • Prefabrication of the tape is possible
    • Designed for manual or automated application
    • No curing time needed
    • Limited cleaning necessary
    • Tapes won’t dry out in storage

Visit our Double Sided Tapes page to learn more about the benefits common to all double sided tapes.

What is a Carrier, and do all tapes have one?

    • Thickness: 50 – 350 µm
    • With carrier
    • Less flexibility and conformability than Transfer Tapes
    • Compensates less surface roughness than a transfer tape
    • Carrier limits the temperature resistance
    • Better handling and stability than Transfer Tapes
    • Easier to die cut
    • Better to apply
    • Two different adhesive layers can be combined
    • Production of level wound rolls is possible
    • Thickness: 25 – 270 µm
    • Without carrier
    • High flexibility and conformability
    • Compensates more surface roughness than a Double Sided Tape
    • Higher temperature restistance than double sided tapes
    • Automatic application is recommended for big surfaces
    • Handling and convertibility is more difficult (edge picking) than using a double sided tape
    • Fiber-reinforced Transfer Tapes are available for easier handling
